Do you care what people say and think about you?

This is in reference to my other question. I got a lot of "I don't care what people think" Well, what if someone thinks that you are a child molester and you are not? How do you prove that you are not? I met an individual, whom I have known for about 3 years now, and I have seen the court doents and not only me. There are other people who know that he is not a molester. This guy is stuck in a mental institution and did already serve prison time for a crime that he did not do. The problem is that the Doctors that have the power to let him free and clear his name, will not do it. Because they will be looked down upon by their peers, etc. Gossip and words are extremely damaging. This man has lost approximatily 17 years of his life and sees that he will never get out. What is to be done in a situation like this? What if this was any one of us? If it happened to him, it can happen to anyone. Being labeled as a child molester in this country is worse than a murderer. If you look at the crimes, which is worse? It is supposed to be that the punishment fit the crime. I thought nobody in this country got life in prison, unless they killed someone. We are changing that: Now if you kill someone or if someone "says" you touched them inappropriately, it is the same sentence. This is completely unconstitutional and yet it goes on everyday. Please give me your comments, suggestions, etc.
