Why did the Christian God give free will if the only choice is to bow down or burn forever?

Lots of things in Christianity don't make sense. I think it is pure BS, but we still need it because the world would be a mess if all the religious nuts found out their religion is a fairytale, and now have extra time on the weekends to express their free will. Does the world really need to see religious nuts express their true free will?
