How to interpret a T test?

A t-test with a t-value of 6.85 and a p<.01 means that the null hypothesis is rejected at 99% since p<.01. This means that, the ertion that people living in cities have a higher expectation of their homes being burgled than their counterparts in the countryside is not true.
