LDS: Should I include in my storage commodities forbidden to Members as trading items?

My home teacher (who also by coincedence is my Bishop, told me that he keeps in his storage things like cofee, and tobacco, not for his consumption but to trade with non-members for needed things should the need arise. I am reestablishing a household after a severe illness and need to start over, but I was always councilled in the past to avoid the near appearance of evil. So this seems just somehow not right to me. What say all of you?
