Non-Traditional Wedding Receptions?

My fiance & I are just planning on getting married at the courthouse. Not very glam we know know, but that's just the way we feel most comfortable doing it. Our own opinion. My question is would it be rude or inappropriate to have a reception? We aren't asking for gifts, money or anything other than the presence of our families. We love having cook-outs & family get together so we thought it would be nice to have one after we are married. Any opinions?
