Why do people believe that their relative perceptions are the way things really are?

For instance man thinks that his so called consciousness is the true self and his subconscious is not. Actually the subconsciousness is more conscious that what we relatively call our consciousness. There are objective parts of the human being that the human beings relative perceptions are unaware of.
